Coffee shouldn’t be confusing. When we initially met with Andrew the founder of Pioneer, we discovered a clear issue. With multiple locations and distinct interiors, he was confusing his customers with two brand entities that tied back to the same company. Prior to working with 3816 Creative, there was Pioneer Coffeehouse and Pioneer Coffee Collective. The coffeehouse interior was decorated with cozy finishes, meant to look like a Montana Cabin. The Collective location was luxe, inspired by a 1920s train station, with crystal chandeliers, black and gold.
Our solution? To look at how customers were already identifying multiple locations and working through our brand naming framework that highlighted the cornerstone of the business – the coffee.
3816 Creative created a brand identity for Pioneer Coffee Roasters that is clean while maintaining a vintage typeface. Through rounded terminals and serifs, the word mark has a variety of applications from digital to product packaging on both sleeves and cold cups. We wanted to ensure that food packaging applications were excellent as it would provide a strong social media moment for the company with User Generated Content (UGC) for years to come.
The color palette played with a variety of gray and beige neutrals that juxtaposed the interior’s gold accents while keeping the Pioneer’s printing budget in mind (and skirting the need for gold foil).
We’re thrilled with the results and proud of how Pioneer continues to execute the brand across platforms and applications – whether it’s a Valentine’s pre-fix menu or their latest single origin roast. Congratulations to Pioneer as they are now award winning! In 2022, their GOLD RIVER Won Bronze, ETHIOPIA ANAEROBIC Won Silver and 2 Bronze in the Golden Bean North America Competition.
